ERIC'S
SYMPHONY SHOW
The orchestra is seated. The conductor is poised at
the podium. Eric steps to centre stage and counts off the
first song: COME ON IN! What follows is an hour of musical
fun and symphonic silliness as Eric's hilarious antics
bounce off the sobriety of the tuxedos behind him.
Melodies range from Rossini, to Duke Ellington, to
Spike Jones, all artfully arranged for full orchestra and
banjo, or fiddle, or even musical saw. The concert is full
of surprises such as an unannounced appearance of a
"famous" visiting soloist and a showdown between
tuba and sewerphone.
Even the audience gets into the act, becoming an
alternative orchestra of their own. A few come up on stage
to play along with Eric and the symphony. If one purpose of
a family symphony show is to familiarize young people with
the theatre and make the orchestra accessible, then Eric's
Symphony Show does it in spades.
